Past Events

Thanks for joining us at our March meeting on Water Quality!  Our guest speaker was Greg Weiss, Service Manager with ProSkill Services in Anthem.

Our bodies are like a fish tank and consuming the cleanest water is very important!

We learned about our water supply, recent water test results, and water purification methods.

A meeting summary will be added here in the next few days (as well as emailed to those on the club email list).

Thanks for joining us at our February meeting on February 28, 2024 with Eva Marie Caraballo!   Eva is an engaging speaker and we had an interactive meeting on the topic of “Stay Positive”.

We learned techniques that can help us enjoy the abundance of the present moment.  Eva guided us through writing exercises.  We thought about a past high point in our lives and what characteristics it had.  A key message was to celebrate what you accomplish and don’t dwell on things that didn’t go so well.  Review those and use words that are constructive to enhance your belief system about yourself.

Eva can be reached at 623-249-1625!

Thanks for joining us at our January meeting on January 24, 2024.  We had an excellent meeting with guest speaker Joe Garcia, Owner of Raqia Farms – All About Microgreens!

  • Overview of health benefits
  • Demonstration of growing microgreens, the different phases of growth, and when ready to harvest
  • Growing Tips & Q&A

  • Thanks for joining us at the Anthem Health and Wellness Club’s meeting on Wednesday, October 25, 2023.

We had a great meeting with Dr. Luke Shillig with Back to Health of Anthem.  Dr. Luke spoke to us about ways to help balance blood sugar and to reduce diabetes risk.  Clean Juice provided juice samples and everyone enjoyed tasting a few!

Here are just a few of the learning points Dr. Luke shared:

  • Fiber buffers sugar impact on the body.  It helps to balance blood sugar to increase fiber in your daily food intake by eating more vegetables and fruits.
  • Dr. Luke reviewed the 10 Glucose “Hacks” from the book Glucose Revolution by Jessie Inchauspe.
  • Hack #1 is to Eat foods in the right order.  Eat foods in this order to reduce the meal glucose spike:  Fiber First (Non-Starchy Vegetables), then Protein and Fats, then starches and fruits/sugars.
  • Hack #10 is to “Put “clothes” on your carbs”.  Add protein, fat, or fiber to starches or fruits/sugars.  This reduces the speed of glucose absorption in our bodies.
  • Another Hack from the list is “After you eat, move”.  Taking a brief 10 minute walk will reduce the glucose spike from your meal.

Thanks for joining us at the Anthem Health and Wellness Club’s meeting on September 27, 2023 12:00 at the Anthem Civic Building.

Mike Goral, Owner of Prime EMF Leaders was our Guest Speaker.

We learned about Electro Magnetic Fields (EMF’s) and ways to minimize them inside your home.

Topics included:

    • What are EMF’s
    • Harmful vs. beneficial EMF’s
    • How can we reduce exposure to harmful EMF’s
    • What is “dirty electricity”
    • 5G vs 4G

Here are just a few of the learning points Mike shared to reduce harm from EMFs:

  • Cell phones emit radiation up to 8 feet away – placing our phones at least 8 feet away when not in active use is beneficial.
  • In settings on your devices, turn off the items you are not using to reduce radiation from your phone.
  • Earthing/grounding mat effectiveness may be impaired by areas with un-natural ground currents.
  • Dirty electricity can be in our plugs/walls where electrical lines are (see picture below).
  • Our bodies are electric and some people are more affected by EMFs than others.  We are all affected by EMFs even if we don’t sense it.
  • WiFi Routers can be put on a timer to turn off and on automatically when you sleep.  This is a good practice so your body can more effectively heal overnight.
  • Radiation from your WiFi router can be completely eliminated by using Ethernet instead of WiFi.

Mike does consultations over the phone and EMF assessments at your home to measure EMFs and Dirty electricity.

To reach Mike, call him at 480-360-4478 or email info@PrimeEMFLeaders.com.  For more information, see:  www.PrimeEMFLeaders.com

Thanks for attending the Anthem Health and Wellness Club’s meeting on March 22nd at the Anthem Civic Building.

Our topic was Embracing Mother Nature for a Healthy Digestive and Nervous System.  Our Guest Speaker was Bonnie Crutcher, Certified Holistic Nutritionist and Health Coach with Trinity Lifestyle and Wellness.  Bonnie spoke to us about “earthing” also known as “grounding”.

We learned how “earthing” can:

-release communication between your gut and brain
-restore hormonal balance
-rebuild your digestive system

We went out side so people could put their feet on the ground barefoot and be grounded for a bit while Bonnie introduced us to grounding.  Grounding can be done on cement, rock, soil and grass.  Grounding doesn’t occur if we have tennis shoes (or most other types of shoes other than leather or natural fabric soled shoes) or on asphalt.

Bonnie has an 8 week wellness program and info is at this link (scroll down to the Event Description):  https://www.trinitylifestyleandwellness.com/event-details-registration/lion-of-judah-wellness-workshop

The desert is blooming and that’s BRITTLEBUSH you see!

This silvery leafed mounding shrub is more than just an early spring pollinator, it’s also an AMAZING medicine!  We learned about the many benefits of this sunny, lower desert favorite ENCELIA Furinosa.
-Plant habits, gathering and storing
-Plant energetics and actions, basic herbalism
-The long list of common ailments and why Brittlebush may be the remedy
-Preparation and usage; making and dosage

We tasted BRITTLEBUSH leaf and discussed the 5 Tastes in Western Herbalism (sweet, sour, salty, pungent, and bitter).  The leaf was pungent and bitter (and slightly numbing).  We learned that the slight numbing was due to the analgesic pain relieving compounds in the leaf.  We discussed the yellow flowers and learned that they are useable and good for the liver.  Dee brought tea that we all enjoyed.  We discussed tinctures, salves, teas, and oils, and how they can be used.

See https://sunraeherbals.com for more information.

Dee regularly leads herbal workshops and events.  More information is at:  https://sunraeherbals.com/products/herbal-workshops .

Thanks for joining us at the Anthem Health and Wellness Club meeting on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 from 12:00 Noon – 1:30 PM at the Anthem Civic Building.

Our topic was:  The Organ of Longevity | Muscle.  Our Guest Speaker Cristina Archer is a National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach, Founder of HardWodder Nutrition, and prior CrossFit Gym owner.  Cristina spoke to us about how muscle is the organ of longevity and why it is so important to preserve and grow as we age.

Sarcopenia is a type of muscle atrophy that affects people as they grow older.  Building strength and growing muscle are key to minimizing the risk of sarcopenia.

Sufficient protein is required to grow and maintain muscle mass.  To signal your body to grow muscle (muscle protein synthesis), a minimum of 30 grams of protein and 3-4 grams of the amino acid Leucine is required at a given meal.

Daily protein needs for our bodies is at least one gram per pound of ideal body weight.  For example, if you weigh 220 but your ideal body weight is 190, the minimum protein to eat per day is 190 grams.

We also discussed our Wellness Vision and Cristina shared the document below to guide us to develop our own Wellness Vision Statement.  Click this link for infographics provided by Cristina:  https://hardwodderone.com/marketing-assets/nutrition-seminar/

The topic of Time Restricted Eating is one that is quite intriguing and here is another article if you would like to take a look.  It is a review article published by the Endocrine Society. The article is titled “Time-restricted Eating for the Prevention and Management of Metabolic Diseases” and was published Oct-21 at:  Review Article

You can read and/or download the full Review Article from the link above at no cost.

The first visual in the Review Article (Graphical Abstract) shows health benefits of Time-Restricted Eating (TRE) based upon eating the same amount of food/drink but within a shorter time period consistently such as 8-10 hours. That is the period referred to as the “Feeding Window”.   Also see Figure 1 in the Review Article that illustrates a 24 hour period with key recommendations relating to time-restricted eating (TRE). The light blue part of the circle represents the “Feeding Window” which is 10 hours in the example.

Here is a video with depth on the scientific analysis of Time Restricted Eating:  YouTube Video Link

Anthem Civic Building – 3701 W. Anthem Way (corner of Venture Drive) – Room 3

https://berryliciousjuice.com/

Do you have a one-ounce tastebud that screams for “chocolate chip cookies” but your jeans say, “for the love of lettuce, puhhhlease, eat a salad”?!?!

Do you experience headaches, depression, weight gain, and fatigue after eating sugar? You’re not alone!

When it comes to taming your sugar cravings, if you feel a constant “inner battle” with making healthier choices, it’s because the sugar triggers the dopamine level in your brain — and once you get a sense of that, you typically want more of it and that can lead to addiction.

If this sounds familiar, then it’s time to detoxify and support your biochemistry in reaching a more alkaline state!

But how do you take the first step to alkalinize and detoxify when you feel so powerless with your cravings?

You will learn:

  • Insights about the science behind sugar
  • Practical and effective dietary tips to reduce sugar cravings
  • How to take next steps to begin the detox process and start your healthier journey

Everyone takes home a free Essential Oil Sample for taming sugar cravings and balancing metabolism!

Joyce Rockwood, CCH, Certified Gravity Colon Hydrotherapist, Gut Health Coach, doTERRA Essential Oils Specialist, and Certified Thai Yoga Bodyworker, who believes in challenging the status quo. She does this by teaching her unique methodology to individuals and groups, so they heal their bodies from the inside out, regardless of genetic disposition, and experience lifelong vitality.

Joyce often works with busy parents and purpose-driven professionals who are highly successful in their careers but are being held back by digestive struggles/food addictions, a lack of energy, and poor sleep. Clients come to her when they’ve grown frustrated and tired of trying to figure out long-lasting solutions on their own and attempting to do so is taking away their freedom and impacting their ability to perform at optimum level.

Teaching you how to nourish, detoxify, and rejuvenate your body — from the inside out — so you can age in reverse is what she does.

Helping you to have more physical and emotional vibrancy that allows you to fulfill your purpose and make the biggest possible difference in the lives of others is who she is.
